Freedom, Inc. (FI) is a dynamic collective of youth, women, queer, and trans folks who are working to end violence within and against low income communities of color. We focus our work within Black, Hmong and Cambodian communities in Madison WI. All of our work is specific in relation to culture, gender, and generation and is held in a collective structure to promote liberation work, within and across identities.
We are asking you to support us on Give OUT Day because we are proud to be an LGBTQ organization that incorporates queer liberation into every aspect of our work. We know that fighting against deportation is a queer issue. Fighting against police violenceis a queer issue. Fighting against racism is a queer issue. And most importantly, we know that cultivating leadership from within our queer Black and Southeast Asian communities to lead in the fight against all of these kinds of injustice is the only way that we can all be free.
All of our work is consistent with our commitment to queer justice, but some of our specific areas of work also include: Leadership development for youth and elders, political education, and domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy and services. FI is recognized locally, nationally, and internationally as a strong social movement center that creates systemic and cultural change.
